sequence

Our carefully crafted trip offers a mix of relaxation, adventure and meaningful community engagement. You will receive a detailed itinerary before the trip.

Each day begins and ends with a shared mindfulness exercise open to all participants.

Serenity at sunrise (7am): Start your day with a grounding meditation and breath work. As the sun rises, we explore topics such as resilience and adaptability, the impact of mindfulness on social change, and methods for cultivating inner peace in a turbulent world.

Evening Bliss (7pm): As dusk fades into night, join us around a cozy campfire for storytelling and laughter under the stars. These gatherings also provide a platform to discuss and reflect on different experiences from different perspectives, focusing on ethical choices, social responsibility, decolonizing aid and development, and strategies for sustainable growth. It is a time for individual and collective reflection on the day's learnings and interactions.

Arrival

How do you get there? (airplane)
- EBB - Entebbe International Airport
- Transfer not included

The entry point to Uganda is Entebbe, on the outskirts of the Ugandan capital Kampala. This is practical, as the ferry to the Ssese Islands also departs from Entebbe. An average journey from Europe to Entebbe takes between 10 and 16 hours, depending on the departure airport and the flight offer (for comparison: a flight from Berlin to New York takes 9 hours).

We recommend that you use Kayak, Checkfelix, Skyscanner and similar websites to find the flight that suits you best, preferably one day before the start of the retreat so that you can arrive in Uganda in peace.

Main Street 1, 321 Kalangala, , Uganda

Cancellation policy

Full refund up to 30 days before arrival.
If you cancel up to 15 days before arrival, you will receive a 50% refund of the booking price.
After this, the booking is non-refundable.

Prepare yourself for the journey:

Necessary vaccinations
Vaccinations are highly recommended and sometimes even mandatory before traveling to most countries in the Global South. Make an appointment in good time for a travel medical consultation or vaccination at the Tropical Institute or with another doctor of your choice.

We recommend that you get vaccinated at least one month before your departure, as some vaccinations may require a longer interval between vaccinations. The process is very simple - you tell them where you are traveling to and they will tell you which vaccinations are required. The yellow fever vaccination is mandatory for your visa application for Uganda. Other recommended vaccinations are usually hepatitis A and B, rabies and typhoid.

Your doctor is the best point of contact for details and can also advise you on malaria prophylaxis.

Visa
We recommend that you apply for a tourist visa for Uganda at least two weeks before the start of your trip. Follow the step-by-step online application process on the Uganda Immigration Service visa website.

You will need scans of the following documents:

-Return flight ticket
-Yellow fever vaccination certificate
-Biometric page of your passport (valid for at least 6 months)
-A recent passport size photo
Once you have successfully submitted your application, you will receive an email and have to make a payment of 50 USD. After that, you will have to wait for your visa to be approved and print it out to present at the airport.

If you are not only coming to Uganda for the Adama Retreat but also want to visit Kenya and Rwanda (up to three months), we recommend that you apply for the East African tourist visa. It costs 100 USD and is valid as a visa for multiple entries to these three countries. In this case, you should check the conditions for this visa carefully to ensure that it meets your needs.

25% of your payment will go directly towards the construction of an elementary school on the islands.
