Frequently asked questions
What is a retreat?
A retreat is a deliberate break from everyday life where you focus entirely on yourself in a peaceful setting. Depending on the focus, yoga, meditation, fasting, silence, or creative practices take center stage. A retreat typically lasts between a weekend and two weeks and takes place in small groups – often in natural settings like mountains, by the sea, or in the countryside. At Retreat Vacation you'll currently find 1037 retreats across Europe.
What types of retreats are there?
The variety of retreats is vast: yoga retreats for physical and mental balance, silent retreats for deep inner reflection, meditation retreats like Vipassana, wellness retreats with spa and relaxation, fasting retreats for detox, Pilates retreats for gentle body training, and creative retreats for writing or painting. At Retreat Vacation you can filter specifically for the type that suits you.
How much does a retreat cost?
Retreat prices vary widely depending on type, duration, and accommodation. A weekend retreat in Germany starts at around €200–300, while week-long retreats typically range from €500 to €2,000. Luxury retreats with single rooms, full board, and spa can go higher. At Retreat Vacation you'll find offers from €80 to €11.900 – there's something for every budget.
Who is a retreat suitable for?
Retreats are suitable for everyone – from complete beginners to experienced practitioners. You don't need yoga experience or special fitness. Many people book their first retreat during a stressful phase, after a life change, or simply out of curiosity. Most organizers offer different levels and cater individually to your experience level.
Where do the best retreats take place?
In Germany, Bavaria (especially the Allgäu), the Black Forest, and the Baltic Sea coast are popular retreat regions. Internationally, Mallorca, Portugal (Algarve), Bali, Sri Lanka, and Austria are among the most sought-after destinations. At Retreat Vacation you can filter by country, region, and even specific locations to find the perfect retreat at your desired destination.
What does a typical day at a retreat look like?
A typical retreat day starts early with morning meditation or a yoga session, followed by a healthy breakfast. The morning brings further practice sessions, while the afternoon often offers free time, workshops, or excursions into nature. In the evening, there's usually a relaxing session and a shared dinner. Between sessions, there's time for rest, reading, or walks.
What is the difference between a retreat and a wellness holiday?
A wellness holiday focuses on passive relaxation – spa, massages, thermal springs. A retreat goes deeper: the focus is on actively engaging with yourself through yoga, meditation, silence, or other practices. A retreat often has a fixed program with set times, a group structure, and an overarching theme. Both formats can complement each other – many wellness retreats combine both.
How do I find the right retreat for me?
First consider what you're looking for: relaxation, physical practice, inner reflection, or adventure? Then choose the type (yoga, meditation, fasting, etc.), duration, and region. At Retreat Vacation you can combine all these criteria and sort results by price, rating, or date. Read the descriptions and reviews from other participants – this way you'll find the retreat that truly suits you.
