“The Fool Within Us”
is both a great challenge and a longing. A longing for the lightness of being and the depth of love at the same time, for reflection and distraction, for meaning and nonsense, for laughter and tears. As is well known, laughter is healthy, and the healthiest kind is laughing at ourselves. This is likely the outstanding quality of the fool, who unites all these aspects within himself. But what does it have to do with the fact that we are dedicating this very course in February to “the fool within us”?
February has long been the month of purification and was named after the Roman purification festival Februa or Februarius. It also bore the epithet of the Roman goddess Juno, who stands for care, relationships, and renewal. We use the stillness and silence for a renewal within ourselves—a renewal of our perspectives on ourselves and on our lives.
Over the course of these days of silence, we grow accustomed to fasting from thoughts, and all those New Year’s resolutions we still vividly remember may finally fall on fertile ground, with nothing now standing in the way of their implementation.
COVID-19 Information
We want to offer you and ourselves the security of participating in our courses while maintaining a respectful distance and following hygiene guidelines. In addition, we have equipped ourselves with one of the most modern ION air purifiers. This device will continuously and almost silently purify the air in the group room using a special virus filter. We will ensure that breaks take place outdoors and will perform additional bursts of ventilation.

My first silent retreat at Mondsee was a fascinating journey to myself and enabled me to bring pain from times long past back to the surface, to live through it and let it go. Marion and Bernhard lovingly accompanied, encouraged and supported me. I am very grateful and it was certainly only the beginning of my journeys to Mondsee.
