Capturing the human body in clay - from a quick sketch model to an expressive figure. In the "Nude modeling I" course, we discover proportions, postures and the effect of the living model.
Nude modeling I
The focus of this course is the encounter with the living model. We look for an image of the person in clay as we perceive them - in their posture, their effect, their proportions.
Proportions & large form
Through sketches and smaller and larger figures, we explore the dimensions of the body and arrive at the "large form", which gives support and expression to the whole.
Tool & Surface
The chosen tool shapes the texture and effect of the figure. Different techniques open up possibilities for further realizations in stone, plaster or other materials.
Statics & relief
The classic poses - standing, sitting, lying down - have different degrees of stability. Visible aids such as a cloth, a pole, a chair or a pedestal can be used to provide support - as can invisible supports such as built-in wire or steel scaffolding. The bas-relief also has a special place here: it moves between image and sculptural body and can be easily molded in plaster.
Clay & process
The figure remains moist during the work, and requires patience and care during the subsequent drying process to avoid cracks. Built-in supports must be removed in good time - or the still wet clay figure is molded in plaster at home.
The result
The end result is a figure that is not just a form, but a record of our spatial perception and our dialog with the living model.
During this week, 28 hours will be spent working with the model, for which a model fee of CHF 80 per person will be charged at the end of the course.
There will be another nude modeling course at the beginning of September.
Individual figures can be cast in the silicone casting course.
