Copper forging with Laurenz Stockner: forging and mounting a copper vessel

Meezen, Germany
View all pictures

Summary

The "forcing" or "raising" of vessels is an ancient metal forming technique. We work with sheet copper, which is plastically formed by hammering and annealing. During processing, the material hardens, becomes brittle and has to be restored to its original relaxed crystalline structure from time to time. This is done by annealing with fire or flame. In the alternating rhythm between hammering and annealing, a three-dimensional object is created from a flat disk.

Laurenz Stockner is a gifted blacksmith who comes to us from Brixen/Italy. He has been awarded the "Bavarian State Prize" and the "Grassi Prize", among others. In 2018, he was a finalist in the international Loewe Craft Prize. His works are represented in international art collections.

Additional material costs of €50 per person are payable.
