Sometimes words aren't necessary.
A canvas, paints, a small wooden stick—and one dot after another.
Dot painting is a unique form of creative expression inspired by the traditional dot paintings of Australia’s Indigenous peoples. In this technique, images aren’t created with brushstrokes but from countless individual dots of color that gradually come together to form patterns, shapes, and entire visual worlds.
What seems simple at first glance quickly takes on a quality all its own: The steady rhythm of placing dots invites you to slow down, find peace, and be fully present in the moment. Many people find the process meditative, relaxing, and surprisingly liberating.
Dot painting is not a quick technique. The images take shape slowly, dot by dot, and that is precisely part of their special appeal. Depending on the size and level of detail, a piece can take many hours or even several days to complete. It is therefore quite normal to work on a single painting throughout your entire stay and to follow its creation step by step.
No prior knowledge or artistic talent is required. What’s much more important is curiosity, a joy in experimenting, and a willingness to engage in a creative process whose outcome often only becomes apparent as you go along.
At the beginning, you’ll receive an introduction to the technique and materials. Throughout your stay, I’ll guide you through your creative process, answer any questions you have, offer suggestions when you get stuck, and share my experiences with dot painting. You decide for yourself how much support you’d like. Some people work very independently, while others enjoy regular interaction. There’s room for both here. All materials are provided.
This program is intentionally not a traditional painting class with a fixed schedule. It’s a creative retreat that leaves room for you to set your own pace. In addition to dot painting, there’s time for walks in nature, encounters on the farm, cozy evenings by the campfire, or excursions in the surrounding area.
You decide for yourself when to paint, when you need a break, and how you’d like to spend your days. Dot painting serves as the central theme of your stay—without pressure to perform, without time constraints, and without the expectation that you have to achieve anything specific.
This creates a special blend of creativity, relaxation, and slowing down—far from everyday life and close to your true self.
