Filigree in Tuscany

In a workshop high above the Magra Valley in northern Tuscany, we will devote four days to the traditional filigree technique.
In the filigree technique, thin silver strands are the starting material. A multitude of small elements form different levels (the spectrum ranges from small leaves and garlands, decorative stone settings to abstract, textile-like details). The combination of the many ornaments creates amazingly stable, lightweight pieces.
During the four days of the course, we will first learn the basics of the technique. Step by step, individual elements will be put together, fixed and soldered with self-alloyed solder. In the course we use fine silver wire, which is so wonderfully easy to work with due to its softness...
The unusual approach of this technique is exciting and inspiring: in the wide field between opulent richness of detail and lightness, there is plenty of room to play, try out and improvise, as well as to integrate what you have learned into your own design language.

Accommodation is not included in the course price. However, simple rooms (without private bathroom) are available in the house for 5 days for a flat-rate expense allowance of €350, including full board. The well-equipped kitchen has ingredients for a home-cooked breakfast. Lunch is freshly prepared by us, and for dinner there are delicious specialties from the region. Drinks such as coffee, tea and local wines are also included in the price. If you have higher expectations and are traveling by car, we recommend renting a hotel room, B&B or vacation home in the area.
The house is surrounded by acacia woods, through which small paths lead to the nearest houses, villages, a small church and a trattoria with a delicious lunch and local specialties.
You are allowed to bring your own pets. Two cats live in the house, but they are out and about most of the time. So far they have made friends with all the dogs and there is enough space for the four-legged friends to get out of each other's way...
Lunch together (if desired) takes place on the large terrace, in case of rain in the cozy dining room with wood stove.

During the course days, freshly prepared lunches and coffee/tea during the breaks are provided for all participants in return for an expense allowance.

Arrival is on the evening before, May 19 from 6 pm. Then we'll have dinner together, get to know each other and discuss ideas.
On the four days of the course (27 hours in total) I suggest the following times: 10:30 - 14:00 and 15:30 - 19:00.
On the day of departure, May 24, the workshop will be available from 10 a.m. to 12 noon for the final touches. Afterwards there will be a small festive final presentation and the works can be admired and photographed again in daylight. The course then ends at around 1 pm.

Travel is not included in the price. As the house is also used privately, you will be given the exact address when you book. There is a direct train connection from Pisa airport to Aulla, where you can be picked up from the train station.
