Over Christmas and New Year in Crete - You can still be in Germany on Christmas Eve, or already in Crete. It is quiet and cozy - both Christmas and New Year's Eve. In the towns (Rethymnon 25km), there are many people in the cafes and taverns, mostly sitting outside. The Christmas decorations are beautifully done.

Plakias on the south coast of Crete is very cozy in December. There is not a large selection of taverns. A few cafes and at least two taverns are usually open. Supermarkets are open. Accommodation is available. As always, I am happy to help.

Temperatures in Crete in December are often above 20 degrees Celsius. Beach days are possible, and people often go swimming in the sea even in December. The water is still warm from the summer. It is orange season, and the trees are full of beautiful fruit. The roses are also in bloom. The sun sets after 5 p.m., about an hour later than in Germany. And the sun rises earlier than in Germany. The evenings are mild. Sometimes it rains. However, the sun usually reappears quickly. GUIDED PAINTING with Katina Kalpakidou: Start painting and let the picture guide and surprise you. Accommodation

Plakias is located directly on the sea and offers a wide range of small accommodations, several hotels, taverns, shops, cafes, and bars. And yet it is a cozy little village. In December, there is only a small selection of taverns. Shared accommodation can be arranged on request.
You can also look for accommodation independently. The studio is located 4-5 km above Plakias and is easily accessible by taxi (approx. €2 per trip/person) or rental car. Carpooling is usually arranged. Rental cars cost only approx. €10/day with full insurance at this time (see Check24).

Catering

A snack is provided during the break. Many accommodations have fully equipped kitchens for self-catering. It is also possible to enjoy meals in the taverns that are open in winter.

We start at 1 p.m. and paint for 4.5 hours a day, plus a one-hour break in between. Even though we paint together in a small group, I work with each painter individually. At the end of each painting session, we share our experiences so that everyone can learn from the other painters' processes without commenting on them.

During the break, there are nice cookies available on the large terrace with a sea view and on the property. And you can sit by the stove, depending on the weather. The fourth day is painting-free, so you have time to explore the area, go on excursions, spend time at the beach, or just relax.

Arrival

You organize your own travel. We are happy to assist you. Heraklion and Chania airports are served by many European airports. Plakias is equidistant—about 100 km—from both Cretan airports and can be reached by bus. We also recommend booking a rental car directly from the airport—in December, often for as little as €10 per day.
