During four varied activities, you will get to know northern Sweden, the country, its inhabitants and nature intensively, while you find inner balance and peace with daily yoga sessions.
You start with a hike directly from Melderstein Herrgård, the 280-year-old manor house, which is lovingly run by Katarina. The owner of the house not only knows all about the history of the area, but also reveals her favorite spot on a nearby mountain, where you can take a leisurely break for fika (coffee and a snack) and enjoy the view over the countryside. Summer is blueberry time in Sweden - the sweet delicacy adorns the roadsides while hiking and you might find the tasty berries in cake form at dinner.
Your next excursion takes you by bus through the picturesque landscape of northern Sweden to a Sami family and their reindeer farm. The Sami, Europe's last indigenous people, live in close contact with nature and still practise traditional reindeer herding. Here you not only have the opportunity to get very close to the reindeer, but you also learn more about life with the animals and about the history and culture of the Sami. What is a yoik, for example? And how do the Sami live today, caught between tradition and modernity? There will be time for one or two stops along the way and, of course, a leisurely fika break is a must on this full-day excursion.
Continue on a "treasure hunt" in the countryside not far from your accommodation - you will get to know the local plants, berries and trees that are used for the production of food and agricultural products. On this 1.5-hour enjoyment tour through nature, you will learn a lot about the sustainable use and harvesting of wild plants typical of the region. Your guide will point out hidden treasures of the Nordic flora and send your senses on a journey of discovery with a basket full of samples.
Experience the region from a different perspective on a kayak trip in the beautiful Bay of Bothnia, Sweden's northernmost archipelago. In the sheltered and calm waters, you can gain your first experience with the kayaks and gain confidence before paddling along the River Råneå - true to the motto: feel the peace and power of nature and experience the moment. A special highlight is the floating sauna, which is moored about 100 meters outside the harbour. Time for sauna and swimming pleasure.
This active week is rounded off and enriched with daily yoga sessions. With beneficial exercises (asanas), you do your body good, strengthen your muscles and train your flexibility. Breathing exercises (pranayama) and meditation round off the sessions and lead to inner peace.
You can find out the exact weekly schedule and times for the yoga sessions on site.
