Writing in an Idyllic Garden
Unwind from everyday life and simply write. Surrounded by nature, you’ll feel a connection to yourself and your creativity. Let the view, the flowers, and the birdsong inspire you as you immerse yourself in your writing flow. Watch the jackdaws and the kite circling above you, and enjoy the view over the Brettach Valley.
The writing retreat is designed for experienced writers who want to work on their writing projects in peace. In the beautiful garden, there are many different writing spots available, and in the village, you can also sit on the church steps or the castle wall.
We’ll start the writing day in a relaxed way with a gentle yet powerful morning yoga session.

Accommodation is included in the price, which is the same for single and double rooms.
You can stay in a half-timbered house with simple single and double rooms. There are four single rooms available, including one connecting room with a folding screen, and two double rooms, each with two beds.
To help you focus fully on your writing project, Elise will provide you with delicious food. In keeping with the yoga theme, she prepares healthy, vegan meals—seasonal cuisine.

How it works
You’ll work freely on your writing project and have the opportunity to exchange ideas with the group. In advance, you can submit a short project outline or an excerpt from your project (max. 4 pages). Feel free to bring a pen and paper and, if needed, your laptop.
On the first day, we’ll get to know each other in a relaxed introductory round and present our projects. On the last day, there will be a small closing reading.

Morning yoga takes place outdoors under the open sky, which is a particularly beautiful experience. The yoga session is based on a gentle blend of Hatha and Yin yoga with some elements of Qi Gong. The session is suitable for all ages and requires no prior yoga experience.

For me, writing is like marveling at the beauty in the world. Writing together is inspiring—something I came to appreciate during my writing training in Berlin. Afterward, I wrote short stories and my first novel in Berlin cafés alongside other writers. Now I look forward to welcoming you to Maienfels!
Elise Garnaut
Elise is a certified yoga teacher (Hatha Yoga) and has taught yoga in many countries, including Australia, the UK, and Spain. She has been living in Berlin for several years, where she also offers yoga in the park, among other things. At international retreats, she has taught courses in Hatha Yoga, Yin Yoga, and guided meditation. She is also an expert in healthy living and vegan cuisine.
