Treat yourself to a mindful break from everyday life and immerse yourself in the soothing power of silence. This summer silent retreat at St. Ottilien Monastery invites you to step away from the noise of the outside world, find inner peace, and gain new clarity. The retreat will take place from July 7, 2026, to July 10, 2026, in a small group with a maximum of 12 participants. 

In the sheltered atmosphere of the monastery, you’ll find a thoughtfully designed program featuring sitting and walking meditations, body scans, mindful movement, yoga, reflection, and personal time. The retreat is recognized by the MBSR Association and is based on proven elements of mindfulness practice. It is suitable for both those with some prior meditation experience and participants who wish to deepen their practice.

The days spent in silence will help you calm the whirlwind of thoughts, reconnect with yourself, and become more clearly aware of your own needs. Especially in a time when so much is fast-paced, loud, and demanding, this retreat can serve as a powerful counterbalance: quiet, clear, calming, and nourishing.

You’ll be guided within a safe, supportive environment that allows space for personal processes. Individual coaching is also available upon request. The combination of silence, mindfulness, nature, a clear structure, and loving guidance creates ideal conditions for regeneration, inner focus, and a renewed sense of direction.

What to Expect
You can expect a clearly structured retreat framework with a balanced blend of guided practice and personal time. Silence here does not mean emptiness, but rather a conscious invitation to listen inwardly, slow down, and reconnect more deeply with yourself.

Practices will also take place outdoors whenever possible. This allows you to further benefit from the tranquility of the location and the power of nature. According to the current schedule, the days begin around 7:00 a.m. and end with an evening practice at approximately 9:15 p.m.

Accommodation

The single rooms with a bathroom and toilet are comfortable and simply furnished. This helps participants focus on their inner process. Bed linens and towels are included. All rooms have windows offering a view of the outdoors.

Catering

Whole-food and vegetarian cuisine, primarily made with ingredients grown on-site, raised on-site, and sourced regionally. Vegan meals are also available.

Full board includes a hearty breakfast buffet featuring freshly baked bread from our own bakery. Lunch consists of a three-course meal. Dinner is a varied buffet.

Guests with food allergies can, of course, receive meals tailored to their needs.

Wednesday: The day alternates between mindfulness exercises, meditations, and personal time.

Thursday: Mindfulness exercises, meditations, and personal time. Personal coaching is available at any time upon request.

Friday: The day begins with mindfulness exercises, which continue until shortly before lunch—followed by the breaking of the silence. Group lunch with conversation and closing remarks.

Whenever possible, mindfulness practice will also take place outdoors.

Guidance on transitioning from the retreat (a safe space) back to everyday life. A gentle re-entry into reality to help maintain relaxation and inner stability for as long as possible.

The days begin at 7:00 a.m., and after dinner, there is an evening practice session until approximately 9:15 p.m.

Arrival

- By train from the north and south: St. Ottilien Station on the Augsburg-Weilheim line. Trains run every 15 minutes to Weilheim; all trains stop at St. Ottilien.

- By train from the east and west: Geltendorf Station on the Munich-Buchloe line. Geltendorf is also the terminus of Line 4 of the Munich S-Bahn. From there, the monastery is a 20-minute walk: turn right in front of the station and walk to the underpass, beyond which a pedestrian path leads to St. Ottilien. There are (usually) also taxis available or the option to transfer to the regional train heading toward Weilheim. The first stop after Geltendorf is the St. Ottilien station.

By car:
- Coming from the east: Take the A96 toward Lindau—Exit 28 WINDACH, then follow signs for Eresing / St. Ottilien. The turnoff for St. Ottilien is located between Eresing and Geltendorf.
- Coming from the west: Take the A96 toward Munich – Exit 27 SCHÖFFELDING – head toward Eresing – continue toward Geltendorf until you reach the turnoff for St. Ottilien.

If you’re traveling by electric car, you can also charge your vehicle on site, as there are charging stations available.
