Alkaline fasting is based on the principle that acids and bases are natural antagonists and normally regulate themselves independently, which is a normal biochemical reaction in the body. With our modern diet, however, we consume too many acids (too many carbohydrates, meat, dairy products, etc.), and acids are also formed during the normal digestive process (uric acid, carbon dioxide, fermentation in the intestines, etc.). However, stress, medication and an unhealthy lifestyle also acidify the body in the long term.
The body has various systems to balance the acid-base balance, and acids are excreted via the kidneys, skin, lungs, liver and intestines, for example. However, this is a gradual process that becomes increasingly difficult over the years, so acids are stored in so-called acid depots so that they cannot harm the body. These acid depots are, for example, the connective tissue, joints, cartilage, muscles, etc. This leads to diseases such as arthrosis, gout, allergies, gastrointestinal disorders... to name but a few.
