Encountering the New in Silence
There’s something special about the first few days of a new year. The hustle and bustle has subsided, things are growing quieter, and it is precisely in this stillness that I invite you to truly find yourself.
For four days, at the Benedictine monastery in Ottobeuren, nestled amid the rolling hills of the Allgäu. A place you can simply feel the moment you walk through the gate for the first time.
We’ll be in silence together. Not because talking is forbidden, but because in the silence, things become audible that are otherwise lost in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Through mindfulness exercises (MBSR) and guided meditations, we create space—space to let go of what the old year brought and to gently sense what is beginning to emerge in the new one. Without grand speeches, without group reflection sessions. Simply in silence.
Between sessions, there’s plenty of time for you: to stroll through the monastery gardens, sit by the window, or simply be. No New Year’s Eve hustle and bustle, no obligations. Just you, the silence, and whatever wants to reveal itself.
Whether you’re just starting out or have been practicing for a long time: you’re welcome just as you are. I’ll be there for you throughout the entire retreat, with an open heart and my experience. And if you’d like, there’s also time for a one-on-one conversation.
I look forward to quietly ushering in the new year together.

Meals at the Benedictine Abbey of Ottobeuren are typically served as full board in a home-style setting, featuring many products grown in the monastery garden. They are usually enjoyed together in the dining room of the guest wing, often as a buffet or set menu, with vegetarian options and special dietary accommodations available upon request.
It is home-style cuisine—often vegetarian—that emphasizes fresh, regional ingredients, some of which come directly from the monastery itself.
In summary: It is hearty, monastic dining in a communal setting that relies on tradition and homegrown produce, often in a very beautiful setting.
