The easiest way to experience Vipassana meditation is through a retreat. In a safe environment, with all your needs taken care of, you can fully immerse yourself in your own experience—like a vacation from daily life, from obligations, and from thoughts of the past and future.
You learn to find peace by focusing your attention on your breath. Thoughts and feelings are allowed to arise—you notice them without getting lost in them. Gradually, a natural stillness emerges. And in this stillness, freedom arises: you begin to truly feel yourself—your body, your moods, and how everything is interconnected. Vipassana is a direct path to liberation in life.
The practice is based on a discourse by the Buddha, the Satipatthāna Sutta.
All retreats are led personally by Adriaan van Wagensveld, together with his wife Kati. Adriaan has been practicing meditation since 1983, and exclusively Vipassana since 2003. He trained as a novice under Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh. He has also spent several years at lay centers in the tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh. Since 2008, Adriaan has been refining his Vipassana teaching and practice in German-speaking countries. To date, he has led over 145 10-day and shorter retreats.
