"Paint Freely by the Sea"
What colors do you associate with the sea?
From October 15–18, 2026 (long weekend), I’m offering a relaxing, healing watercolor and drawing retreat in the beautiful, slightly Mediterranean-feeling town of Sassnitz, right on the Baltic Sea.
The retreat is perfect for everyone, whether you’re just starting out with painting and drawing or already have some experience under your belt.
Without any pressure, you’ll discover the world of colors from within yourself!
Experience an inspiring, relaxing break in a small group of like-minded people.
Your creative retreat awaits you.
If you’re seeking peace and quiet in nature, or if you’re in the midst of a change, a period of reorientation, or a new direction, then this retreat focused on self-expression is the perfect fit for you.
If you’re very much in your head and plagued by inner restlessness, or if you’re in the midst of a grieving process, then this is the right place for you, too.
We’ll paint amidst the coastal landscape, in the small bays of Sassnitz. These offer a sweeping view of the blue sea. Driftwood, flowers, seashells, and old gnarled trees line the shores.
Every day holds new surprises for you.
You’ll hear the soothing breath of the sea and feel yourself becoming more and more at one with this wonderful natural setting as you paint and draw. A sense of connection develops, and you’ll feel at ease with yourself and the colors. Your fluid self-expression feels liberating and uplifting.
When it rains, for example, we’ll paint while looking out at the beautiful garden.
The most important facts in a nutshell:
You'll have access to high-quality materials, such as watercolor paper in various sizes, water-reservoir brushes, and watercolors (Schmincke).
You'll receive personalized, non-judgmental guidance as you discover your own way of expressing yourself through color.
A healing space opens up for you, surrounded by nature, where you can connect more and more deeply with yourself.
You'll be staying at the cozy, historic Villa Maria spa resort, very close to the sea.
We go on group outings to the coast that include time for painting, or we get together to paint and draw while enjoying the view of the beautiful garden.
As your course instructor, I'll provide you with help and tips.
I occasionally offer suggestions during the painting and drawing process.
I'll show you some beautiful places to paint.
You'll feel motivated to try out all kinds of new, spontaneous things.
I'll show you a "letting go" exercise on paper.
One evening, we'll paint as the sun sets or during twilight ("the blue hour"), depending on the weather.
Feel free to contact me anytime with your questions.
The retreat includes mindfulness training, held outdoors with a view of the picturesque garden.
You will become more attuned to your own inner impulses.
You'll experience relaxation through Mal Flow and have the opportunity to connect with others in a small group of like-minded people.

BookPainting Retreat with Self-Catering
There are several restaurants in the immediate vicinity, and each unit in the villa has its own kitchen. You can prepare meals there as you wish.
For breakfast, for example, you can visit a nearby bakery with a view of the sea.
They also serve vegan cappuccino there.
October 15
4:00 p.m. Arrival, welcome, and getting to know each other.
Afterward, we’ll go paint on the beach (2–3 minutes away) or in the common room with access to the garden
Please bring a seat pad or a small folding stool and a surface (e.g., made of cardboard) in A4 or A3 size.
With these items and weather-appropriate clothing (preferably a bit warmer, “layered”), you’ll be perfectly equipped for your relaxing painting retreat.
We’ll paint for about 2 hours, and you can spend the rest of the evening in complete silence—perhaps with a walk by the sea and a nice meal to round out the day.
I recommend keeping a journal throughout the entire retreat. In it, you can jot down your thoughts, ideas, “aha” moments, and so on.
October 16
Meet at 10:00 a.m. (You can have breakfast beforehand, for example, at a bakery near the villa with a direct view of the sea)

There, in addition to unique island books and beautiful postcards, you’ll find savory and sweet dishes (some vegan), cappuccino, and much more.
We’ll spend the afternoon in a cozy atmosphere. Everyone takes care of their own meals, and you might even find a book or two—or something similar—that’s just right for you.
There, we’ll wrap up the session and have time for discussion and feedback.
I’ve also planned a little surprise there.
Dahlmann’s Bazaar closes at 7:00 p.m.,
and you can then spend the rest of the evening in peace and quiet—perhaps with a walk by the sea and a nice meal.

The best way to get to Sassnitz is by train, with a transfer in Stralsund.
From there, a regional train goes directly to Sassnitz.
Or you can drive via the A20 and the B96 toward Stralsund.
Then drive across the Rügendamm Bridge onto the island of Rügen.
Continue along the B96 through Bergen until you reach Sassnitz.
Have a great trip :)
The two rooms with a view of the garden cost a total of 165€ for the 3 nights.
