In the dreamlike ambience of a traditional Canarian house in the picturesque old town of Ingenio in the south-east of Gran Canaria, I will teach you the basics of hand weaving in 20 lessons over 5 days.
After planning your desired textile together and selecting the right high-quality natural fibers, you will set up the 4-shaft loom from scratch with my help. The ancient craft of weaving will bring you into a wonderful flow by using both hands and feet, indeed your whole body, and anchor you in the here and now. At the end, you will hold the unique result of this working meditation in your hands, which will accompany you for many years to come. Let your imagination run wild, I will give you the know-how.
As a hand weaver, I have been officially recognized by the island administration since 2013 and have also been represented on the Homo Faber Guide platform for excellence in craftsmanship since 2022.
In my courses I create scarves, shawls, home textiles and fabrics for sewing projects. During the one-to-one lessons, there is often a lively personal exchange and we often find common interests outside the textile world.
As a German who has lived on Gran Canaria for 25 years, I know the island like the back of my hand and am happy to provide tips on art, culture and excursions. The vibrant island capital Las Palmas can be reached by bus every 30 minutes and many interesting museums and cultural events await you there. Perhaps we can explore the nearby Barranco de Guayadeque nature reserve on a hike together or take a refreshing dip in the Atlantic after work.
Welcome to the wonderful world of weaving in an authentic environment - far away from mass tourism.
