Summary

A darkness retreat is a temporary withdrawal into a completely darkened room—lasting from a few days to up to three weeks. No light, no screens, no thousand distractions of everyday life. What remains is what is already there.
Many come not out of curiosity, but because an inner restlessness won’t subside, because patterns keep repeating, or because they’re left with the feeling of having achieved a great deal yet still not having arrived. In the darkness, the external world fades away—and what the mind usually obscures becomes perceptible. It’s not about optimization or relaxation, but about creating a quiet, clear space for whatever wishes to reveal itself.
Each stay is guided individually, with daily conversations and grounded in the principles of Advaita Vedanta, the non-dual philosophy. The guide has personally spent over two hundred days in darkness—the work has been lived through, not merely read about.
Duration: 3 days to 3 weeks. Individual guidance. Location: Kelkheim in the Taunus Mountains. A free preliminary consultation (by phone or video) will determine in advance whether a dark retreat is right for you and, if so, for how long.
Not suitable during acute mental health crises; suitability will be discussed during the preliminary consultation.

To help you adjust to the darkness more quickly, you’ll arrive the evening before the
actual start, around 6:00 p.m. This overnight stay is free of charge.

In the morning, I’ll bring you breakfast and be available for a brief conversation.
In the afternoon, I’ll be available for a conversation lasting about 60 minutes. During this time, you can discuss your experiences, feelings, or thoughts so far.
Entering the rooms is signaled by ringing a bell and calling out.

Departure on the evening of the last day usually takes place around 6:00 p.m. If you have a long journey ahead of you, you can—also free of charge—spend
an additional night in the rooms so that you can begin your return journey better adjusted
to the realities of everyday life.

Arrival

Kelkheim is very conveniently located.
If you’re traveling by train, the trip takes about 23 minutes
from Frankfurt Central Station to Kelkheim-Münster Station (Line RB12). I’d be happy
to pick you up at the station and take you back there on your departure.
If you’re traveling by car, you can park in front of the house.

Dates by appointment. The retreat can begin on any weekday.

The darkness retreat is suitable both as an introduction and for deepening your practice.

Cancellation policy

If you cancel up to 60 days before arrival, you will receive a 70% refund of the booking price.
If you cancel up to 14 days before arrival, you will receive a 10% refund of the booking price.
After this, the booking is non-refundable.
