Would you like to take a few days off, get active, relax, recharge, reduce stress, and meet some nice people? Then you’ve come to the right place—this retreat is perfect for you!
In this fasting and hiking course with yoga, you’ll relax not only physically but also mentally and emotionally. Yoga and various forms of fasting—or a vegan, alkaline diet—are ideal combinations for finding specific solutions to the demands of everyday life, detoxifying the body, and rejuvenating it. Hiking and other physical activities round out the program.
Make yourself feel better! Fasting or eating only alkaline foods while still getting plenty of exercise—is that possible? Isn’t that pretty crazy? Not at all—quite the opposite! What’s pretty crazy is spending the whole week sitting in an office and/or in front of the TV, not moving a muscle, and still eating! At least, that’s how our ancestors would have seen it. In the long run, our bodies are much better adapted to exercise and a light diet than the other way around.
Yoga addresses the whole person and consists of physical and breathing exercises as well as meditation. We practice basic yoga for relaxation and strengthening, which is suitable for all levels and tailored to the body’s recovery during fasting. With Heart Chakra Meditation—a combination of movement set to meditative music followed by a rest period—we introduce you to meditation techniques.
Massage and Sauna
Our massage team provides soothing massages at the monastery, offering personalized treatments tailored to your wishes and needs. Directly below the Klosterberg is a swimming pool with a sauna area, the Wiedtalbad.
The new sauna area is soothing and promotes relaxation during the retreat. Fasting is a conscious time of regeneration—for body, mind, and soul. Starting now, you can enhance your course experience at Waldbreitbach Monastery with a special wellness component: The new wellness area is now open! Look forward to a classic Finnish sauna, a gentle infrared sauna, and a stylish relaxation room where you can unwind and relax. As course participants, this area is available for your free use.

Dr. Buchinger’s detox method is a modified form of fasting in which solid food is avoided. The body is completely switched to a fasting metabolism and draws its energy almost exclusively from stored reserves (fat and protein). Drinks include juices and broths (¼ liter each), as well as water and tea. All the body’s cells enter a protective state, deposits are broken down, and degenerated cells regress.
Detox 16:8 Intermittent Vegan Alkaline refers to a detox diet in which protein is almost completely eliminated. You eat only foods that are primarily metabolized as alkaline. In this vegan alkaline detox regimen, the body does not fully switch to fasting metabolism. Instead, the body undergoes a deacidification process that has a positive effect on well-being and health.
We follow the 16:8 intermittent fasting concept, which involves maintaining a fasting period of at least 16 hours. This triggers autophagy, the body’s own detoxification process. Autophagy (self-digestion) is currently the detox method with the strongest scientific evidence. The detoxification process takes place directly within the cells. We start the morning with tea, and starting at 11 a.m., we serve homemade alkaline porridge along with fruit and/or vegetables and salads. For dinner, a meal consisting of soup, vegetables, potatoes, dips, and/or alkaline bread is served at 6 p.m.
Simulated Fasting (Pseudo-Fasting Method): Simulated fasting means that for 5 days, the body receives a scientifically precise dietary composition that provides the highest possible amount of micro- and macronutrients without the body realizing it is being fed, since the relevant metabolic signaling pathways remain deactivated. Therefore, despite having regular daily meals, the body remains in fasting metabolism (simulated fasting). The daily calorie intake ranges from 800 to 1,150 kcal. We have further refined this method and incorporate intermittent fasting as well as spermidine-rich foods into our meal plan. This further stimulates autophagy (cellular cleansing).
