Glass fusing with Sybille Homann: Glass art workshop for beginners

Meezen, Germany
View all pictures

Summary

In this workshop, glass artist Sybille will show you how to create a colored bowl or plate from stained glass and fuse it. The glass is cut, shaped and fused in the kiln. In the second step, we build a mold out of refractory material, in which our melted plate is then bent. There will be some theory involved, but the main focus will be on practical experience with the material glass. While we wait for the results from the furnace, we will create small pieces of jewelry and can practice grinding. The course is intended for beginners with no previous experience. All you need to bring are sturdy shoes, work clothes/apron and a good mood!

Materials (glass, mold) for a glass bowl (20 x 20 cm) or similar and firing costs of approx. 60,- € per person are to be paid.

sequence

Friday
Arrival 14:00, get to know each other over coffee.
By the evening we will have completed the first color design (see above), which will then be fused in the oven overnight.

Saturday
After breakfast at 09:00, we will build a fireproof mold for lowering the glass until noon. We will work with clay, plaster and sand. In the afternoon we will make other small projects in glass such as jewelry pendants and learn more about glass. Sybille will show us her work in the evening.

Sunday
Now the molten glass plates will be bent in the oven with the help of the molds we have made and while we wait for the results from the oven, we can practice grinding on wonderful colored cups (cut bottles) that Sybille has prepared for us.
