Welcome to a wonderful place where, far removed from many of our usual routines—in a climate that warms and soothes—you can paint with guidance.

We can work through many problems, but what’s often missing are new and corrective experiences.

When we paint, we are the same people we are in life—we act, feel, and think as we usually do—in accordance with our repertoire.
Basic assumption: People naturally strive to live out and develop their potential. Over the course of our lives, we have accumulated experiences and internalized judgments that limit our freedom of choice.
We take a closer look at what we usually reject, overlook, and avoid.
Through guidance, the processes, sudden shifts, and entirely new possibilities are brought to consciousness, creating genuine choices. The interventions lead the painters beyond their learned limitations.
The work takes place without interpretations or explanations, directly on the painting and in collaboration with the artists as they paint. In this way, truly new experiences can be had.
The focus is on creating paintings that can surprise, touch, and move us—not on their meanings.

Katina Kalpakidou is the director of the studio and institute and has been working for over 25 years with the methods of Guided Painting / Person-Centered Art Therapy and Solution-Focused Art Therapy (LOM®).

Accommodation

I'm happy to help you find a place to stay.
I recommend staying in Plakias, right on the beach.
There's a wide selection of accommodations, taverns, shops, cafes, and more.
To come paint, you can take a rental car or a taxi—it’s about 5 kilometers to the studio.

Catering

A snack is provided during the break.

Many accommodations have fully equipped kitchens for self-catering. It’s also worth enjoying a meal at the wide variety of taverns by the sea or in the mountains.

sequence

We start at 11 a.m. and paint twice a day for two hours each session—a total of four hours per day—with a one-hour break in between.

Even though we paint together in a small group, I work individually with each participant. The paintings are not discussed as a group. At the end of each painting session, we share our experiences so that everyone can learn from the other participants’ processes without commenting on them.

During breaks, there are lovely shaded and sunny spots available on the large terrace with a view of the sea and throughout the property.

The third day is a day off from painting and is perfect for short excursions or a full day at the beach.
You might want to plan a few extra days for vacation before or after the workshop so you have plenty of time to enjoy Crete.

Arrival

You are responsible for arranging your own travel. Heraklion and Chania airports are served by flights from many European airports. Plakias is an equal distance—about 100 km—from both Cretan airports and can be reached by bus.
We also recommend renting a car directly at the airport.

If you cancel up to 92 days before arrival, you will receive a 50% refund of the booking price.
After this, the booking is non-refundable.
