How about starting the new year in a completely different way for a change? Not with new to-do lists and New Year’s resolutions, but with peace, clarity, and a deeper connection to yourself.
We warmly invite you to join us for three full days of silence, to step away from everyday life and experience the healing power of meditation, simplicity, and inner reflection.
The retreat takes place at the Niederaltaich Monastery in southern Germany, a special place of peace and reflection right on the Danube. Surrounded by nature and a peaceful atmosphere, a space is created where thoughts can quiet down and you can once again become more aware of what is alive within you.
At the heart of the retreat are three full days of mindful silence. Often, it is only in silence that we can truly take a deep breath, see more clearly, let go, and reconnect with ourselves.
You can look forward to a clearly structured program featuring:
- daily guided meditations
- gentle Hatha yoga
- breathing exercises and pranayama
- mindfulness practice
- guided deep relaxation sessions
- time for reflection and journaling
- walks in nature
- space for retreat, rest, and your own inner process
The guided meditations, gentle yoga exercises, and breathwork will help you calm your mind, open your heart, and reconnect more deeply with yourself.
The retreat combines elements of meditation, yoga, Advaita Vedanta, Buddhism, and Western contemplation. The approach is down-to-earth, open, and free from dogma.
It’s not about having to perform or achieve anything. Rather, you’re invited to slow down, let go, and step away from the constant hustle and bustle for a few days. Inspired by various spiritual paths, space is created for you to rediscover yourself and arrive at a place of deep connection.
The turn of the year offers a special opportunity to pause and realign yourself. Instead of diving right back into your daily routine, you can take time to reflect on the past year, listen inward, and approach the new year with greater clarity and awareness.
Perhaps this is exactly the break you’ve been longing for: a conscious pause, a moment of stillness, and a fresh start.
After many retreats and group sessions in Mexico and Bali, as well as two already wonderful retreats at the Niederaltaich Monastery, I’m delighted to open this space once again.
If this way of starting the new year appeals to you, please join us.
Feedback from recent retreats:
“The retreat will have a lasting impact. It was intimate and powerful, and I felt safe and supported the entire time. The balance between guidance and time for myself was perfect. The silence was magical for me. Something truly special! It certainly won’t be my last retreat with Katrin.”

BookThe vegetarian full-board meals are freshly prepared in the monastery kitchen. The price includes three meals a day: breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
The cuisine is traditional Bavarian and, as such, rather down-to-earth and hearty. Meals are eaten together in the dining hall. Since other guests of the monastery also eat there, conversations may take place during meals.
Food intolerances or special dietary needs can be accommodated within reason if notified in advance. An additional charge of €5 per day may apply. Please note that the monastery kitchen does not offer vegan meals.
December 29 – Arrival, Retreat Introduction & Entering Silence
Check-in begins at 2:00 p.m.; the latest arrival time is 5:00 p.m. At 5:30 p.m., we’ll begin with a group introduction to the retreat, get to know one another, and discuss the schedule for the coming days.
After dinner, we’ll enter into silence together and begin our retreat.
December 30 through January 1 – Three Full Days of Mindful Silence
At the heart of the retreat are three full days of mindful silence. This time is dedicated to meditation, inner reflection, and a conscious withdrawal from everyday life.
The days follow a peaceful rhythm of guided meditations, gentle Hatha yoga, breathing and mindfulness practices, spiritual reflections, and ample time for rest, reflection, journaling, or walks in nature.
Silence creates a safe space where thoughts quiet down and attention can be directed inward once again.
January 1, evening – Emerging from Silence Together
In the evening, we end the silence together. In a mindful setting, there is an opportunity to share experiences, ask questions, and reflect on the past few days together.
January 2 – Closing & Departure
The final day begins with a group morning meditation, a closing session, and breakfast. Afterward, there will be time for a mindful conclusion before check-out at 9:30 a.m. and departure.
You can travel here from Munich, Nuremberg, and Regensburg, for example—by rental car or public transportation (take the train to Plattling, then a bus or taxi to Niederaltaich). The nearest major airport is in Munich.
Please make your own travel arrangements. If you have any questions or concerns, we’re happy to help.

This retreat was truly magical and crafted with so much heart by Katrin as the leader. It was a journey into one's own heart and should be experienced by everyone. The hall was beautiful and the available facilities were more than sufficient. I particularly appreciated the openness and friendliness of the people in the monastery. The location was wonderful with plenty of green spaces and the two beautiful churches. The Byzantine mass was truly spectacular and the singing was beautiful. Thank you to Katrin, the participants, and the monastery for this unforgettable experience! I will definitely recommend it and surely this was not my last silent retreat at the Kloster Niederalteich. Best regards and many thanks from the heart!

For me, the silent retreat in Niederalteich was very harmonious and profound. Everything fit well: the group, the monastery, and especially the experienced and very caring leadership. Thank you very much for that!!

The silent retreat was excellently prepared by Katrin B. and was clearly structured. It was accompanied empathically and warmly by her. Good energies among the participants as well. Valuable information and tools were conveyed, creating the opportunity for deeper experiences and insights in meditation. The only limitations were regarding the location: it was very cold in the meditation room, and it would have been nice to have a separate area for the meals taken in silence.
