The restaurant treats you to Swedish cuisine. Half-board is included in your trip. In the morning, a breakfast awaits you that will get you off to an energetic start to the day. At lunchtime, you can prepare a light snack for yourself, such as a sandwich, fruit, and drinks. Over dinner, your hosts, Katarina and Göran, will be happy to tell you about the history of the house and the adventures you can experience here. A guest kitchen is also available.
Through four diverse activities, you’ll get to know northern Sweden—its landscape, people, and nature—in depth, while daily yoga sessions help you find inner balance and peace.
You’ll start with a hike right from Melderstein Herrgård, the 280-year-old manor house lovingly run by Katarina. The owner of the house not only knows a great deal about the history of the surrounding area, but also reveals her favorite spot on a nearby mountain, where you can take a leisurely break for fika (coffee and a light snack) while letting your gaze wander far across the countryside. Summer in Sweden is blueberry season—as you hike, this sweet treat adorns the waysides, and you might even find these tasty berries in a cake for dinner.
Your next excursion takes you by bus through the picturesque landscape of northern Sweden to a Sami family and their reindeer farm. The Sami, Europe’s last indigenous people, live in close harmony with nature and still practice traditional reindeer herding. Here, you’ll not only have the chance to get up close to the reindeer, but you’ll also learn more about life with these animals as well as the history and culture of the Sami. What, for example, is a joik? And how do the Sami live today, caught between tradition and modernity? Along the way, there will be time for a stop or two, and of course, no full-day excursion would be complete without a cozy fika break.
Next, you’ll embark on a “treasure hunt” in nature not far from your lodging—you’ll get to know the local plants, berries, and trees used for producing food and agricultural products. On this 1.5-hour leisurely tour through nature, you’ll learn a great deal about the sustainable use and harvesting of wild plants typical to the region. Your guide will point out hidden treasures of Nordic flora and send your senses on a journey of discovery with a basket full of samples.
Experience the region from a different perspective on a kayaking trip in the beautiful Gulf of Bothnia, Sweden’s northernmost archipelago. In the sheltered and calm waters, you can gain your first experience with kayaks and build confidence before paddling along the Råneå River—true to the motto: feel the tranquility and power of nature and savor the moment. A special highlight is the floating sauna, which is anchored about 100 meters off the harbor. Time to enjoy the sauna and a swim.
This active week is rounded out and enriched with daily yoga sessions. Through soothing exercises (asanas), you’ll do your body good, strengthen your muscles, and improve your flexibility. Breathing exercises (pranayama) and meditation round out the sessions and lead to inner peace.
You’ll receive the exact weekly schedule and times for the yoga sessions once you arrive.
Please arrive in Luleå on the specified date.
