BookAll meals at the Mountain Retreat Center are vegetarian and vegan. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day—at least according to the Chinese. That’s why we place special emphasis on a good, healthy breakfast—always featuring warm porridge. For lunch, you’ll enjoy soup, bread, and spreads, and in the evening, you’ll be treated to a delicious buffet featuring salad, creative vegetarian and vegan main courses, and dessert. Everything is freshly prepared and, whenever possible, made with seasonal ingredients. We can accommodate food intolerances with advance notice.
Hardly any other topic is discussed, debated, and scrutinized as much as aging. While the side effects or primary symptoms may cause sleepless nights for some, others happily embrace this stage of life, which can bring so much fulfillment.
The so-called “second half of life” is often associated with a decline in abilities and quality of life. Yet studies show that satisfaction and inner balance actually increase during this second half of life. The drive for achievement and competition can give way to serenity and gratitude.
We grow older on our own, but how we navigate aging depends on us. Our body plays a crucial role in this, as it is the vehicle through which we move in this world. Through yoga and meditation, we become more mindful and attuned to what benefits us and what harms us. Yoga offers everyone, at any time, the opportunity to grow: physically, mentally, and spiritually. We can learn to accept the limitations of aging while simultaneously connecting with the opportunities it presents and focusing on what strengthens us and gives us freedom.
This week-long retreat is a journey of discovery—both individually and as a group. We will focus on:
- Practicing yoga exercises (asanas) adapted to each individual’s body
- Exploring various forms of meditation
- Practicing breathing techniques
- Reflecting on one’s own life and life situation
- Discovering one’s own strengths and resources
- Exploring the six virtues for a fulfilling “second half of life”
The six virtues are:
Accepting things as they are
Going through life with humor and serenity
Looking at one’s own life with gratitude
Adjusting expectations to circumstances
Practicing letting go
“Beginner’s Mind” – maintaining a spirit of “curiosity”
Each day, we will focus on a specific virtue or attitude for the “second half of life” that helps us keep our body, mind, and soul in balance and live life with contentment.
The retreat is specifically designed for people in the second half of life, which—as Eckhard von Hirschhausen rightly says—is better than its reputation.
Traveling by Car
Take the A8 highway (coming from Munich or Salzburg) and exit at Frasdorf, then head toward Aschau; from there, it’s a 15-minute drive to Sachrang.
Traveling by train
Take the train or bus to Aschau or Prien im Chiemgau. From there, you can reach Sachrang either by bus (limited service) or by taxi.
Taxi fare from Aschau to the Mountain Retreat Center is approx. €35
Another convenient and affordable way to get from the Aschau train station to Sachrang is Rosi, an on-demand service in the Rosenheim region. The Mountain Retreat Center now has its own stop!
