Winter in northern Sweden naturally slows the pace of life. The snow-covered landscape, crisp air, and the silence of the forests invite you to leave everyday life behind for a few days. At Melderstein Manor, you’ll spend a week where yoga, nature, and mindfulness come together in a completely natural way.
Together with Jonas Mitterböck, each day begins with a peaceful yoga practice. As the winter landscape slowly awakens outside, gentle movements, mindful breathing exercises, and moments of silence offer you a mindful start to the day. It’s not about performance or perfection, but about becoming aware of your own body and finding peace.
Yoga creates space for clarity. In everyday life, our thoughts often race nonstop—appointments, obligations, and decisions rarely allow the mind to find peace. Regular yoga practice during this week invites you to pause the whirlwind of thoughts for a while. Through mindful movement, breathing exercises, and moments of stillness, you’ll learn to refocus your attention on the present moment. With each session, you’ll experience greater inner peace, a new sense of lightness, and a clearer focus on what truly matters. You’ll discover how soothing it can be not to let external influences dictate your mind, but to consciously guide it and navigate daily life with greater serenity.
Another focus of the retreat is group walks through the Swedish forests. Step by step, you’ll direct your attention both outward and inward. Breathing exercises and short meditations accompany your walks through the snow-covered landscape, transforming the forest itself into a place of mindfulness. The crisp winter air, the crunch of snow underfoot, and the vastness of the landscape create an atmosphere that fosters serenity.
Two special nature experiences make this retreat week in northern Sweden even more unforgettable. On a husky sled ride, you’ll glide through the snow-covered forests of the north and experience the unique combination of silence, vastness, and the powerful energy of the dogs. The approximately 2.5-hour tour includes homemade fika, appropriate outerwear (boots, pants, jacket, hat, and mittens), as well as plenty of time to get acquainted with the dogs.
Another excursion takes you out into the wintry wilderness on snowshoes. Off the beaten path, you’ll experience northern Swedish nature in its quiet, unspoiled state. The hike combines gentle physical activity with breathtaking scenic experiences and offers repeated opportunities to spot animal tracks in the snow. At the same time, the slow pace allows you to let your gaze wander and consciously take in the special atmosphere of nature. In this way, the snowshoe hike becomes a valuable complement to the shared yoga and mindfulness experiences of the week.
Between the group sessions, there’s plenty of time to enjoy the special surroundings in your own way—perhaps with a cup of tea while taking in the winter landscape, while reading, or simply in the soothing tranquility of the house. It’s precisely these mindful breaks that make the retreat a valuable time-out.
This retreat is designed for anyone who wants to experience winter in a different way—calmly, mindfully, and surrounded by nature. You’ll return home not only with beautiful memories of Sweden but also with new inspiration for greater mindfulness and serenity in your daily life.
