Early in the morning—starting at 5:00 a.m.—you can immerse yourself in the special meditative atmosphere of the tranquil Shivalaya monastery grounds. This powerful place is open to you all day long, even outside of scheduled classes. You’ll find a meditation cave, rooms for your own practice, and a rooftop terrace with a view of the greenery—a place for deep silence and retreat.

In addition, we offer guided meditations using various techniques, as well as morning and afternoon yoga classes for all levels—from beginners to advanced. These include therapeutic yoga, back yoga, Yin Yoga, Mantra Yoga, and much more.

Our meditation program is complemented by daily rituals, recitations, and morning and evening satsangs featuring silent and guided meditation, kirtan, and inspiring talks.

The cuisine also supports you on your journey: look forward to a rich vegan buffet that harmonizes body and mind. A separate silent room allows you to eat mindfully in silence.

For a more immersive experience, you can request a silence button at the reception desk or info point.

To help you find your way around, there are regular house tours, a guest handbook, and information screens throughout the building; the info point and reception desk are always available to assist you with advice and information. Opportunities for interaction and getting to know one another include the open program (e.g., walks, meditative hikes, Nordic walking, workshops, and lectures), shared meals, and the regulars’ table for newcomers in the dining hall.

Meals

Two vegan whole-food buffets daily, plus fruit in the morning. A variety of water and tea options are available throughout the day.

Our kitchen is certified organic (*Organic Certification: D-NW-039-4252-OBO). In our well-equipped open kitchen, our staff lovingly prepare vegan organic meals. In the morning, we serve a hearty brunch featuring breads, muesli, fruit, salads, grains, and hot dishes. In the evening, the buffet offers a selection of salads and hot dishes.

Arrival

If you are traveling by train, we recommend getting off at the Horn-Bad Meinberg station, which is approximately 5 km from the Yoga Vidya retreat center. Yoga Vidya Bad Meinberg offers a free shuttle service to and from the retreat center, picking you up from the Horn-Bad Meinberg station and dropping you off there between 8:30 a.m. and 7:15 p.m.

I felt very comfortable in the shared room with the women, slept better than at home and really came to rest through yoga, meditation and good conversations. I regularly attended the satsangs (very inspiring and authentic speakers) and the yoga classes (I tried several, they were all competently and kindly led). I ate vegan food for the first time and will continue to do so at home because it was very good for me. I liked the fact that there is no exaggerated tendency towards perfection and that the people here are very honest. And behind everything you can feel the honest will to work towards a better world with the help of Buddhist philosophy and in harmony with the cosmos and nature. It's also nice that Gaia, spirituality and women's power have a place here. All the best, I'll be back, Heidrun
