Germany works differently from classic long-haul retreat destinations such as Bali or Goa. Summer opens the mountain and forest layers around Berchtesgaden, the Black Forest and the Eifel for outdoor yoga, hiking and time in nature, joined by wilderness and archery seminars in the Bavarian foothills. Spring and autumn are the calmest months for mindfulness and silence days in the monasteries. In the north, the season on Sylt, Rügen, Hiddensee and in the Mecklenburg Lake District runs mainly from May to October, while Brandenburg carries year-round. In terms of language, almost all programmes are led in German, with single houses in Aschau and Horn-Bad Meinberg accepting English-speaking guests.
