Summary

"Every mask, whatever its distinctive features may be, proclaims its non-belonging to the everyday world" (Mircea Eliade)

Masks are images of our soul.

Since time immemorial, they have held a fascination for us humans. Throughout history, the mask has served as a link between nature and the culture we have created. The mask forms a bridge between the inner world and the outer world, giving form and expression to the intangible.

When crafting a mask, the creator embarks on a quest to uncover hidden aspects of their being. Even as the masks are being made, inner images, forms, and beings rise up in the imagination. The mask takes shape in our hands. We put it on and thereby lend it our breath and our body—thus creating a masked being that can breathe and move freely.

The subsequent mask play offers space for direct and creative encounters—with ourselves and with one another, with our own life stories and current life themes.

Accommodation

My clients usually find their own accommodations in the surrounding area. This is simply because everyone has different preferences. Some prefer their own apartment, while others might just want a simple room. Both options are available in the immediate vicinity.

But perhaps you’d prefer a complete package for your retreat? Our healing retreat also has guest rooms. Subject to availability, you’re welcome to stay with us. The guest rooms are located in the adjacent building. They have their own entrance and access to the garden. You’ll share the kitchen and bathroom with your roommates. Please feel free to talk to me about this.

Catering

Meals are not included, as everyone’s needs vary greatly. You decide for yourself what’s best for you. Generally, you can prepare your own meals at your accommodations—either you have your own kitchen or at least cooking facilities, or there are options that include breakfast or even an on-site restaurant. In Daun, there are large supermarkets, bars, and restaurants.

sequence

The retreat consists of 15 hours, spread over 3 or 5 days. The weekend retreat begins on Friday afternoon and ends on Sunday evening.

Schedule for the 5-day retreat:
Day 1
Getting Started I What do I bring with me?
Introduction to mask work

Day 2
Journey into the Unconscious I Which part of myself wants to be lived? I Exploring archetypes
Sketches and preparations for mask-making

Day 3
Mask-making
Here, whatever wants to be brought to life can take shape.
We work with clay, papier-mâché, and natural materials.

Day 4
The mask comes to life
The mask takes on its face and character. It is painted and adorned.

Day 5
Mask Performance
The mask takes the stage. It comes to life, gaining a voice and expression.

Once all the masks have been introduced, we come together for a final reflection.
What have we learned? How can we apply these insights to our daily lives?

We conclude the retreat with a closing ritual.

An important part of the retreat is also documenting the process as it unfolds. Upon request, this can be done as part of an individual retreat program.

Additionally, there is the option of therapeutic support (art therapy | psychotherapy | trauma therapy).

Arrival

On your own. If you’d like to explore the area a bit outside of the retreat program or head to more distant starting points for hikes or walks, we recommend traveling by car.
