What is a silent retreat?

A silent retreat is a guided getaway during which you consciously refrain from verbal communication for a set period of time. Who is a silent retreat suitable for?

What happens during a silent retreat – do I have to be quiet the entire time?

So you're never completely on your own.

What should I bring to a silent retreat?

We recommend comfortable, simple clothing that allows you to meditate and move freely. Also useful: a notebook for personal reflections, warm socks, a light blanket, and possibly your own meditation cushion. Electronic devices such as smartphones should ideally be left at home or kept switched off during the retreat to allow the silence to take full effect. You will usually receive a detailed packing list from the retreat provider.
