Art Therapy Retreat: Expression & Nature
A creative getaway at Heilhof Vulkaneifel. Find space for retreat, regeneration, and creative expression. This retreat combines the healing power of art therapy with the grounding energy of the Vulkaneifel. Far away from everyday life, we use a variety of artistic media to give visible expression to inner processes and draw new strength.
Here’s what to expect:
We take a process-oriented approach without any pressure to perform. The natural surroundings of the Heilhof serve as our studio, source of strength, and space for inspiration.
Painting & Collage: Bringing inner images to life with colors, shapes, and paper.
Sculpting & Modeling: Working hands-on with clay and soft stone invites you to feel and shape
.
Land Art: Creating ephemeral works of art with and within the natural landscape of the Vulkaneifel.
Creative Writing: Using words as a bridge to one’s own feelings and experiences.
Who is this retreat for?
This retreat is open to anyone seeking a mindful break. No prior artistic experience or talent is required. The focus is on creative activity, the experience itself, and therapeutic reflection.
The retreat takes place in a small group of up to 6 participants, yet leaves plenty of space for individual processes and can be easily combined with one-on-one art therapy sessions.

My clients usually find their own accommodations in the surrounding area. This is simply because everyone has different preferences. Some prefer their own apartment, while others might just want a simple room. Both options are available in the immediate vicinity.
But perhaps you’d prefer a complete package for your retreat? We also have guest rooms at our healing retreat. If available, you’re welcome to stay with us. The guest rooms are located in the adjoining building. They have their own entrance and access to the garden. You’ll share the kitchen and bathroom with your roommates. Please feel free to talk to me about this.
Meals are not included because everyone’s needs vary greatly. You decide for yourself what’s best for you. Generally, you can prepare your own meals at your accommodations—either you have your own kitchen or at least a place to cook, or there are options that include breakfast or even an on-site restaurant. In Daun, there are large supermarkets, bars, and restaurants.
The art therapy retreat at Heilhof Vulkaneifel is designed as a five-day intensive program for small groups that combines a playful exploration of materials with deep self-awareness. The structured program includes creative methods such as intuitive painting, clay and stone sculpting, and land art in nature to strengthen personal resources and support processes of change.
Sample Schedule:
Day 1
Painting with pens, charcoal, chalk, watercolor, acrylic, and natural materials
Day 2
Experimenting with clay
Day 3
Sculpting with soapstone
Day 4
Collage with paper and natural materials
Day 5
Creative writing
Materials and techniques are tailored to the participants’ wishes and needs. We typically begin each day with a meditative warm-up and then move into the creative process. Three hours per day are set aside for this process. However, those who wish to remain in the process and continue working on their themes even outside of retreat hours will find a safe space for themselves both in the studio and in the large garden.
Individual art therapy sessions can be arranged to deepen the process.
On your own. If you’d like to explore the area a bit outside of the retreat program or head to more distant starting points for hikes or walks, we recommend traveling by car.
Traveling by train: The Gerolstein train station is 14 km away from us. From there, you can reach us by bus (advance reservation by phone required) or by taxi. If the timing works out, we can also arrange a pickup.
